Privacy Policy — Chmod Calculator
Last updated: 26 August 2026
Chmod Calculator (com.tahatec.chmod_calculator) is an Android app published by Tahatec. This policy explains what the app does and does not collect.
The short version
Every permission mode is worked out entirely on your device. Anything you type or paste — a mode, a chmod command, a directory listing — is processed locally and is never uploaded. There is no account, no sign-in and no server belonging to this app. The app does show ads and does report anonymous usage and crash data, and that is described in full below.
What stays on your device
The mode you are working on, and whether it describes a file or a directory.
Any ls -l output or command you paste or share into the app to decode. This is read on the device and then discarded — it is not stored between sessions, and the owner and group columns of a pasted listing are not even parsed.
The path you type for generated commands, and the recursive (-R) setting.
Your settings: theme, the chmod implementation (GNU or BSD), the umask, and whether notifications are on.
Settings are stored in the app's own private storage and are removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data from Android's app settings. The app reads your clipboard only at the moment you tap the paste button, and never sends its contents anywhere.
What is collected, and by whom
The app uses three Google services. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below.
Service What it receives Why
Google AdMob (with Meta Audience Network mediation) Your device's advertising identifier, approximate location derived from your IP address, and standard device and ad-interaction information. To select and measure the ads shown in the app.
Google Analytics for Firebase Anonymous usage events, an app-instance identifier, and general device and country information. To see which features are used, so effort goes to the right ones.
Firebase Crashlytics Crash stack traces, the device model and OS version, and an installation identifier. To find and fix crashes.
What the analytics events never contain: anything you paste or share into the app, file or directory names, filesystem paths, the owner or group names in a listing, or the contents of your clipboard. What is recorded is the permission arithmetic itself — an octal mode such as 755, a mode argument such as u+x (which the app has already checked is permission syntax and nothing else), which advice codes were shown, and counts reduced to coarse buckets such as "2–5 rows decoded". A permission mode describes a policy, not a person, and none of it can identify you or reconstruct your filesystem.
Notifications
The app can send occasional announcements through Firebase Cloud Messaging. These are off until you turn them on in Settings, and they are sent to everyone who has opted in — the app does not target individual devices. Turning the system notification permission off stops them.
Ad personalisation and consent
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or a US state with applicable privacy legislation, the app asks about ad personalisation using Google's User Messaging Platform before requesting any personalised ad. You can change that answer at any time from the privacy options in Settings, where the option is offered.
Children
The app is a developer utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices
Remove everything the app has stored: uninstall the app, or use Android Settings → Apps → Chmod Calculator → Storage → Clear storage.
Reset your advertising identifier: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Opt out of personalised ads: in the same Android Ads settings, or through the consent options in the app where offered.
Ask about the data held by the services above: contact us using the address below, and we will pass the request on.

Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. A change that affects what is collected will also be described in the app's release notes.
